Rock Infrastructure supports CAE, a global leader in training provision for civil aviation, defence and security, in reaching agreement with the UK MOD for the continued provision of aircrew training services

Earlier this week CAE announced that agreement had been reached with the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence (UK MOD) on a contract amendment which continues the 20-year partnership for delivery of aircrew training services at CAE’s Medium Support Helicopter Aircrew Training Facility (MSHATF).

Rock Infrastructure was appointed by CAE in 2011 to provide strategic, structuring and negotiating expertise to support CAE in transforming the original PFI project into a training business with a long-term UK MOD services off take agreement.

As lead advisor for the past 6 years, Rock Infrastructure has continued its long running association with CAE, with both Mark Swindell (Founding Partner) and Nick English (Partner) being involved in the bid phase and close of the original contract signed October 1997. Mark was lead legal adviser on the original bid and Nick, who worked for Hambros Bank at the time, was lead financial adviser.

CAE’s MSHATF is a purpose built, state of the art facility that provides ground and simulation based training to RAF and Royal Navy crews of the Joint Helicopter Command as well as turn-key training to other third-party operators.

Andrew Naismith, (Managing Director, CAE Aircrew Training Services), said:

“Rock Infrastructure has been instrumental in supporting CAE in reaching an agreement on the continued provision of training services to the UK Ministry of Defence and in transforming the PFI into a training services business capable of selling its state of the art training services provision globally.

“Rock has not only brought unparalleled expertise and knowledge in navigating the complexities of public private partnerships but also a unique perspective and innovative solutions to deliver a successful outcome for all stakeholders.”
