Rock Rail Moorgate’s £200m rolling stock deal on Govia Thameslink Railway’s (GTR) Great Northern route has been awarded IJGlobal’s ‘European Rail Deal of the Year’ 2016. Rock Rail who led the deal with co-equity investor SL Capital attended the IJ Global Award dinner on the 29th March 2017 at the Guildhall in London, celebrating the best energy, infrastructure and mining deals across Europe and Africa.
The board of Rock Rail Moorgate Plc hosted guests from many of the key parties supporting the deal, including Aviva Investors, CMS Cameron McKenna, Stephenson Harwood and Siemens.
The 25 climate-controlled six-carriage units being built by Siemens, will enter service by the end of 2018 to replace the currently running 40-year-old stock. The innovative trains will give passengers a modern, high-quality environment, with features including: full width inter-vehicle gangways, intelligent climate-controlled air-conditioning, latest in passenger information systems, full accessibility, power points throughout and built in passenger Wi-Fi.
Rock Rail is delighted to be working with equity investor SL Capital, and with debt investor Aviva, together with GTR and Siemens, to deliver an improved service with a step-change in capacity and reliability between Moorgate in the City of London and Welwyn and Hertford, Stevenage and Letchworth.
